The Ara Pacis, one of the greatest examples of classical art and a historic testimony of immeasurable value, returns after restoration, enriched by the new Museum designed to house it by the US architectural studio Richard Meier & Partners Architects.

The Municipal Administration has chosen the 21st of April, the anniversary of the foundation of Rome, for the official opening of the new Museum. The Museum is the first work of architecture to be built in the historic centre from the fall of fascism to the present day.

The project was designed by Richard Meier & Partner Architects ( a US studio responsible for many of the most important museums of the second half of the Twentieth century), and was built under the direction of the Office of the Politics of Programming and Planning of the Territory of the Municipality of Rome – Historic City Project Office of Maire Engineering (previously Calosi & Del Mastio); the furnishing of the Museum and the restoration of the monument are by the Office of Cultural Politics of the Municipality of Rome – Soprintendency of Cultural Assets.
